In the Transvaal neighbourhood about 3000 residences have been demolished. In the midst of this large-scale restructuring activity in which new construction is replacing old, a small section of the original construction on Herzogstraat has been restored. In terms of price, not a simple project. On the other hand, a number of unique porched-condo residences dating from 1900 now give the street a unique ‘look and feel’.

The historically interesting part of Leidschendam borders on Sluisplein and the adjacent banks of the river Vliet. Reconstituting a palette of familiar buildings that used to be located on the Vliet and reconstructing the sole remaining section of the Vier Heemskinderen inn creates the perfect look and feel on Sluiskant.

In The Hague, a major pedestrian route to the city starts at one of its two main railway stations, Hollands Spoor. Many severely neglected buildings have been demolished, with the exception of one façade. Behind the reconstructed façade are modern student flats with lofts on the top floors. The ground floor is suitable for the hospitality industry. The public square – refurbished by the municipality – and the reconstructed façade combine to recreate a dignified entry to the city from the station.
